EPCA conference in Berlin

EPCA - ANIQ - APLA: It's meeting time for the international chemical industry in fall 2024

Decision-makers from the chemical industry will be meeting at three major international conferences in the coming months: It all kicks off in Berlin with the 58th annual meeting of the EPCA: from October 7 to 10, the European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) is once again expecting around 2,500 participants at the Intercontinental Berlin. A little later, on October 23 and 24, the industry will meet at the ANIQ Foro Nacional de la Industria Química in Mexico City. And between November 18 and 21, the 44th Annual Meeting of the APLA, the petrochemical and chemical industry of Latin America, will take place in Cartagena, Colombia.

"The power of Action" - the motto of EPCA 2024

The motto of the 58th annual EPCA conference is “The Power of Action”.

Sustainability is one of the key topics. Greenhouse gas emissions in Europe have fallen by around a third over the last three decades. The petrochemical industry has made an important contribution to this. The EPCA will discuss how a sensible balance between safety, affordability and sustainability can be found in the future. One of the four focus areas will therefore concentrate on the topic of sustainability in supply chains.

A second focus group will deal with the topics of diversity and inclusion. More diversity should lead to more innovation and better results in companies.

The third major topic is “Leadership Reimagined”. With the growing challenges facing the industry and ever-increasing pressure towards change management, new demands are also being placed on managers and leadership.

The fourth central theme of the conference is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). How can the industry effectively counter the shortage of skilled workers through training initiatives in these subjects?

EPCA 2024 - an exclusive conference for members

The EPCA is a specialist conference that is only open to EPCA members. Non-members will not be granted access to the event, neither to the on-site meetings nor to the accompanying virtual sessions. Detailed advance information on the annual conference is available on the organizer’s website and especially on LinkedIn.

Meet Leschaco at the EPCA 2024

The Leschaco team will of course be present at the EPCA, not only because we want to contribute our experience and opinions on the major current topics of the conference – from sustainability and diversity to leadership and STEM – but above all because, as every year, we want to take the opportunity to exchange ideas intensively with our customers and partners from the petrochemical industry. If you are interested in a fixed meeting with colleagues from Leschaco, simply contact us by e-mail at epca@leschaco.com. We will be on site on all four days of the conference and look forward to meeting you!

The "ANIQ Foro Nacional de la Industria Química" in Mexico City

On 23. and 24. October ANIQ invites you to the Foro Nacional de la Industria Química in Ciudad de Mexico. Leschaco is one of the seven main sponsors of the event. The following topics are planned so far:

  • Importance of employees for the chemical industry of the future
  • Resilience and innovation in the chemical industry
  • Sustainability, energy transition, circular economy

The Latin American Petrochemical and Chemical Association (APLA) Annual Meeting in Cartagena

Around 850 participants are expected to attend the 44th Annual Meeting of the APLA at the Hyatt Regency in Cartagena, Colombia, which will take place from November 18 to 21. Leschaco will be represented in soccer strength: 11 experts from South and Central America and Europe are on the list of participants, proof of how important not only the petrochemical industry is for us, but also how important this region is for Leschaco.

Leschaco in South America

Two years ago, Leschaco took over the freight forwarding company Transantartic S.A.C. in Peru and the logistics service provider Coltrans S.A.S. in Colombia. The integration of the two companies has now been completed and South America has become an important and promising economic region for Leschaco. Our goal is to become a recognized logistics leader for the chemical industry in South America. The pharmaceutical industry, a key global vertical market, also represents a major growth opportunity for us in South America. The chemical and pharmaceutical industries require more than just quoting a freight rate. They require a high degree of operational excellence, specialized market knowledge and product expertise.

In the coming years, we expect significant growth in South America, particularly in the sea freight sector. The USA is certainly still the most important trading partner for most Latin American countries. But in the last ten years, trade between China and Latin and South America has increased considerably. And the growing trade conflicts between the USA and China are certainly opening up completely new opportunities for South America. As European logistics expert, Leschaco can actively support the prospering industries in Latin and South America.

Current challenges in contract logistics

For Leschaco, contract logistics and dangerous goods logistics go together like butter and bread. This is because contract logistics always shows its strengths where complex processes are involved, where it is not enough to simply transport goods from A to B, but where profound knowledge is required to gain an overview of complicated logistics chains in their entirety and keep them under control, where there really must be no room for error at any point in the process so that the entire process is not jeopardized. And where, if not in the transportation of dangerous goods, doesn’t everything depend on everything? Michael Clover, Head of Commercial Development at Transport Intelligence Ltd., exclusively presents the key findings of the latest Global Contract Logistics Report 2023.

Lithium-ion batteries are dangerous goods and require special precautions for safety during sea transport

Lithium batteries are dangerous goods. We have known this since the catastrophe of the transport ship “Felicity Age”, which sank in the waters of the North Atlantic off the Azores in spring 2022 after a major fire, presumably after a lithium-ion battery caught fire in the cargo. Shipping accidents involving lithium batteries almost regularly fill the leading media and the books of insurance companies. But of course, aviation logistics is also concerned with the risks posed by batteries. The International Air Transport Association IATA has now published a white paper with the attractive title “Make Lithium Batteries safe to ship”. The paper deals with incidents involving lithium batteries and ways to make battery logistics in air transport safer. We have taken a look at this document for the readers of Leschaco’s dangerous goods blog.
